Captain America: Civil War Logo Revealed!

Captain America: Civil War Logo Revealed

Jeremy Renner recently post on his Instagram page a photo that apparently reveals the logo for the upcoming film Captain America: Civil War. The photo had fans of the Marvel series overjoyed and heightened their enthusiasm as they wait anxiously for the next film to be released.

The much hyped third installment of the Captain America film series will be coming out May 6th, 2016 and will star an ensemble cast featuring  Chris EvansScarlett Johansson, Robert Downey Jr.Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Paul Bettany, Jeremy Renner, Don Cheadle, Elizabeth Olsen, and Paul Rudd. The film will take place after the events of Avengers 2: Age of Ultron and, according to Wikipedia, will have “politicians look to form a system of accountability and a governing body to determine when to call in the Avengers…”

My Thoughts

I am a huge fan of the Marvel films, particularly the Iron Man films, so I can’t wait to see what’s in store for this film. The film will star the new formation of the Avengers, War Machine taking the place of Iron Man, Vision taking the place of Thor, Falcon taking the place of Hawkeye, and Scarlet Witch taking the place of the Hulk. I find this roster compelling as it’s still got the mix of “normals” and “otherworldlies” but is still very different from the original roster. I’m personally excited to see Vision in action more as he’s a really cool character in my opinion.

Will Jared Leto’s Joker Suck? I Don’t Think So.

jaredletoWe first saw previews of Jared Leto’s version of the Joker for the new DC comics film Suicide Squad last April and all I have to say is wow! Judging from the photos released this version of the Joker looks really menacing! Though to many fans Leto’s Joker looks promising, some fans are up in arms over the Joker’s “punk” appearance and all his tattoos. The question is, will this version of the Joker hold up to the previous versions of the character played by Jack Nicholson and Heath Ledger? I think it will, though I do think that it’ll be tough shoes to fill given how impressive Ledger’s version of the Joker was in the 2008 film The Dark Knight.

Jared Leto has had success as an actor with roles like the heroin-addicted Harry Goldfarb from Requiem For a Dream and John Lennon’s killer, Mark David Chapman, in Chapter 27. Leto is probably best known, though, as the lead singer of the rock band 30 Seconds to Mars.

Though Leto does not have quite the acting background as, say, Heath Ledger did, Leto’s performances as a serious actor do make his casting as the Joker look promising. Leto showed dedication to his role as Mark David Chapman by putting on weight to look like him and studying his movements, similar to how Ledger prepared for his role as the Joker by locking himself in a hotel room and coming up with how the character would act.

Will Jared Leto’s performance as the Joker overshadow Ledger’s performance or will it suck? Write your thoughts below!

Ant-Man: Paul Rudd as a Superhero?

Ant-ManWhen I went to see the new Avengers movie, I remember wondering what upcoming films I’d see during the previews. Honestly, seeing the upcoming film previews beforehand is one of my favorite parts of going to the movie theater.

Pretty soon after taking a sip from my dixie water cup (they barely give you any water at the movie theaters…it’s like they MAKE you buy a drink or bottled water otherwise you’re left with next to nothing in your cup) I looked up at the screen to see one of my favorite actors: Paul Rudd! I thought to myself, “What is Paul Rudd doing in a Marvel movie?

Then he donned the Ant-Man suit.

And I thought nooo…are you serious? Paul Rudd’s gonna be a superhero! Awesome!

Needless to say I was ecstatic.

My Thoughts

I’m always curious as to what new superheroes Marvel will add to the roster for the Avengers films, and I’m definitely pleased to see Ant-Man in action! The trailer looks incredible, and I’m actually looking forward to seeing Paul Rudd play as a superhero.

Paul Rudd has always been one of my favorite comedic actors. From the Anchorman films to I Love You, Man, his delivery and ability to improvise makes him a brilliant comedian. I personally think actors who are naturally funny and have starred in comedies end up making great superhero movies.

Although this isn’t always the case, there have been some great examples such as Ryan Reynolds playing Deadpool in X-Men Origins and, of course, the naturally funny Robert Downey Jr. donning the Iron Man suit for the Ironman films.

What Are Your Thoughts?

Are you looking forward to the new Ant-Man film? Do you think Paul Rudd will nail the role or will it end up being a flop? Write your thoughts below!

Avengers: Age of Ultron Is AMAZING!

If you still haven’t seen Avengers: Age of Ultron I suggest you crawl out from the rock you’ve been living under and get your butt to the theaters! This movie is amazing!

What I Loved About the Film

Robert Downey Jr. is the man, and I love his characterization of Tony Stark in the Marvel films. In Avengers: Age of Ultron, you really get to see the hilarity of Stark in action. From the opening scene where he makes fun of Captain America for asking him to “watch his language” to his “I’m sorry” while fighting the Hulk, Iron Man truly shines in this film.

Another one of my favorites from the film is Quicksilver. Played by newcomer Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Quicksilver has the ability to run really, really fast. He also has a pretty awesome Russian accent in the film, which I loved. Unfortunately, Quicksilver’s screen time was cut short as he was killed after saving Hawkeye and a small child towards the end of the film. It’s possible that Johnson was only signed on for one film, which is why they had to kill him off. Who knows, though? Maybe he will return due to popular demand?

Ultron was pretty awesome too. Voiced by James Spader, the character had somewhat of a weird personality. A bit comical at times, and yet very serious in his demeanor. To me, he seemed a bit unstable as he was exposed to so much chaos that humanity has brought over the years, which is why he felt driven to “purge the planet”. The problem, of course, was that he focused entirely on the negative aspects of humanity while disregarding all the good that humanity has done. So the real question is, are we humans truly the problem or are we the solution to suffering? This struggle is best represented by the conversation towards the end of the film between he and Vision, who brings balance to the equation by focusing more on the good of humanity rather than the evil.

What Are Your Thoughts?

Do you think this second installment of Avengers was better than the first? Do you agree more with Ultron or with Vision? Write your thoughts below!

Jurassic World: The Greatest Jurassic Park Film to Date or the Biggest Flop?

Jurassic World

Jurassic World, the latest in the Jurassic Park film series, is set to be released June 12, 2015. The film will star Chris Pratt, who came to fame recently with his starring role as Star Lord in the film Guardians of the Galaxy, Bryce Dallas HowardVincent D’Onofrio, and Ty Simpkins. This is the first film in over ten years since the last installment, Jurassic Park 3, back in 2001. The film looks promising judging by the trailer, but with its director, Colin Trevorrow, being fairly new having only directed a few other films prior to this one could this highly anticipated film end up being a flop?

Synopsis of the Film

According to Wikipedia, the film will take place 22 years after the events of the first Jurassic Park film, and will feature an actual dinosaur amusement park just like John Hammond envisioned. Unfortunately, a new dinosaur hybrid (Idominus rex) created using the DNA of several dinosaur species escapes and begins terrorizing the island. It’s up to Owen Grady, played by Chris Pratt, and the security team to put an end to the Idominus rex’s rampage.

My Thoughts?

I like the Jurassic Park series, and I love that they’re reviving the series for the newer generation to enjoy. I remember the first time I saw Jurassic Park I was mesmerized by the massive dinosaurs and how lifelike they looked thanks to the fairly new CGI the animators used back in the day.

Now, several years later, kids these days are used to seeing CGI on the big screen, even in movies that end up being terrible, so will this film have the same effect as its predecessor on this younger generation? Guess we’ll have to wait until June to find out! I’m personally hoping that the film does well and reintroduces the Jurassic Park series to the younger crowd.

What Do You Think?

What are your thoughts on the new Jurassic Park film? Will it succeed like the ones before it or will it end up being a failure? Write your thoughts below!

Just Announced: New Jimi Hendrix Biopic 2015

Jimi HendrixThe estate of Jimi Hendrix has just announced their agreement with Legendary Pictures for an official biopic of the late rock and roll legend. For Jimi Hendrix fans everyone, this is exciting news. The film will be directed by Paul Greengrass (who also directed United 93 and Captain Phillips) and will feature actual recordings from Hendrix.

After the 2013 release of the unofficial biopic starring André Benjamin (better known as André 3000 from OutKast) was met with mixed reviews, Hendrix fans everywhere are still left waiting in anticipation for a great film to do their hero justice. With the announcement of the new biopic film, expectations are high, but will they actually be met?

Jimi Hendrix is considered by many to be something of an enigma: his vintage upside-down fender guitar that he played left-handed, his drug use, and his relatively short career as a mainstream musician having been cut short due to his untimely death in 1970. For these reasons, to be able to effectively convey the artist’s personality can be difficult, as we’ve seen in films like Jimi: All Is By My Side. The question is, will Paul Greengrass’s film be received well by Hendrix fans everywhere, or will it flop and be a box office failure like its predecessor?

While we don’t have a lot of information yet on roles, scripts, or release dates, fans are on the edges of their seats waiting with anticipation for who will play legendary rock star.

What’s your opinion?

Are you a Jimi Hendrix fan? If so, what’s your take on this news? Is Paul Greengrass a good choice to direct a film like this? Comment below!

Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice: Can Ben Affleck Pull Off Playing Batman?

A huge fan of superhero films, I am beyond excited for the brand new Batman Vs Superman film set to be released March 26th, 2016. The film will star Henry Cavill as Clark Kent / Superman, reprising his role from Man of Steel; Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne / Batman; Amy Adams as Lois Lane; Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor; Laurence Fishburne as Perry White; and Gal Gadot as Diana Prince / Wonder Woman.

Ben Affleck

My face while watching Daredevil

While I’ve seen the trailer and I must say – I am blown away by how good it looks, I am slightly concerned with the casting of Ben Affleck as Batman not because I don’t think he’s a great actor, I just can’t see it. Whenever I think of Ben Affleck in a superhero movie, I instantly think of the 2003 film Daredevil which was lackluster at best. With a track record like that, I can’t help but wonder if Ben Affleck will be able to effectively pull off the persona of the caped crusader.

I will say this, with an awesome director like Zack Snyder behind the film, it helps my doubts that Ben Affleck won’t be able to pull the role off. Not only that, but I’m slightly reminded of how I felt when I found out Heath Ledger, the dude from 10 Things I Hate About You and A Knight’s Tale, would play the Joker in Christopher Nolan’s film The Dark Knight. As we all know, however, Ledger not only pulled the role off but he literally reinvented the Joker in a way that has never been seen before or sense. The role was so good it won Ledger an Oscar posthumously, so who knows? This film could potentially house one of those unlikely-actor-picked-for-role-completely-nailing-it moments, but only time will tell.

The Good Lie Movie Review by Laura C. Cantu

The Good Lie Movie REview by Laura C. Cantu

As I was visiting my mother over the holidays, I rented ‘The Good Lie’ because my mother likes to watch dramas, and this kind of movie seemed right up her alley.  Not only did she like it, I also thought it was surprisingly engaging and interesting.

Maleficent Movie Review by Laura C. Cantu

Maleficent Movie Review:

Disney’s Maleficent stars Angelina Jolie, Elle Fanning, Sharlto Copley, Sam Riley, and other notable actors and actresses who made this movie memorable and charming. I thought Angelina Jolie played her role of Maleficent perfectly. Not only did she look the part, she gave Maleficent beauty, power, femininity, and depth, which I believe has been lacking in other renditions of the Sleeping Beauty story. On the other hand, Sharlto Copley played a character that I considered despicable. I typically do not detest characters in stories because I realize they are fictional. However, Sharlto Copley embodied the greedy character so well that I found myself revolted by simply looking at his face.

Speaking of villains…One of my favorite casting choices in this movie was for Knotgrass. She was played by none other than Imelda Stauton, the professor known as Dolores Umbridge; yes . . . that’s the one . . . the one who made us grit our teeth in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. I was pleased to see, however, that Imelda Stauton’s character in Disney’s Maleficent was charming, fun, and even likeable.

I also thought Elle Fanning, Sam Riley, and others played their parts well, yet I cannot think of anything outstanding to mention regarding their performances. Overall, I consider this a good thing, because fake emotions or lines that seemed forced did not distract me.

As for the storyline, Disney’s Maleficent takes the cake of all the Sleeping Beauty films. Not only does this movie cover the entire tale of Sleeping Beauty, it also gives us glimpses into the kingdoms, societies, and how the realms interacted. I was especially pleased to learn how the monarchies of man and fairies were entirely different. I also enjoyed seeing Maleficent as a young girl.

Perhaps my favorite part of this movie was learning the background and motivations of Maleficent herself. In the other Sleeping Beauty renditions I’ve seen, Maleficent is simply an evil witch with seemingly little or no credible motivation to place such an evil curse on a young girl. In this movie, however, we learn what drove Maleficent to become jaded, resentful, and revengeful. Not only do we learn her motivations, but this script makes it clear why most characters do-what-they-do. In other words, this movie has its bases covered as far as motive is concerned. I would go into more detail regarding this, however, I do not want to put any blatant SPOILERS in this review. Suffice to say, Sleeping Beauty used to be my least favorite of all the animated Disney films. After seeing Disney’s Maleficent, it’s one of my favorites.

One last note . . . I also appreciated the graphics and the new creatures crafted in this film. We didn’t see most of the run-of-the-mill fairy characters, which I thought was refreshing. Instead, we saw amazing and beautifully crafted tree soldiers, root dragons, mud gnomes, and other amazing fantasy beings.

Overall, I give Disney’s Maleficent 5 out of 5 stars. I highly recommend seeing this film if you enjoy fairy tales, fantasy, villain stories, and tales of true love.

Terminator Genisys: The 5th Terminator Movie Coming 2015

Coming in 2015 is the brand new relaunch of the Terminator series with Terminator: Genisys. The film will see Arnold Schwarzenegger reprising his role as the original T-800 along with Emilia Clarke as Sarah Connor, Jason Clark as John Connor, Jai Courtney as Kyle Reese, and Lee Byung-hun as the T-1000. Acting as a reboot, prequel, and sequel to the Terminator series, the story plays out the same as the original movie: John Connor finds out Skynet plans to send a T-800 back in time to kill Sarah Connor in order to prevent his birth, and in order to protect her he sends one of his men, Kyle Reese, back in time to protect her. However, the film differs in that the timeline has been changed after a T-800 was sent back in time to protect Sarah as a child, training her to face her destiny.
The film will feature both original villains from the first two Terminator movies: the T-800, played by a CGI-rendered younger version of Schwarzenegger, and the T-1000 originally played by Robert Patrick in the 1991 film Terminator 2: Judgement Day now played by Korean actor Lee Byung-hun.

The film looks promising, and being a huge fan of the Terminator series I can hardly wait to see this film when it hits theaters July 2015. Watch the trailer below!
